Clever Choir Resource

One of the challenges that directors of volunteer choirs face every week is the different levels of musical education among their members. One wants to program beautiful music, and keep the more knowledgeable members interested, but also wants to bring along those who might have a weaker musical background.

There are various ways to workaround these issues. One is the "section leader" system, in which rehearsals are conducted (at least in part) in voice sectionals. A skilled leader, who is sometimes compensated, teaches voice parts to the others in his/ her section. Another workaround is the use of recordings, such as cassette tapes of voice parts.

A You Tube user, apparently named Margot Lorena, has combined the best of both systems through the magic of You Tube. She posts complex polyphonic pieces, sung, while showing the sheet music. A person could learn quite a bit by trying to sing along. Give it a try!
