Tomorrow my good friend Deacon John Rapisarda will be ordained to the priesthood, so I must leave chant camp a little ahead of schedule. Sigh. It's been a huge immersion learning experience and I would love to keep singing like this forever.
This morning we sang Victoria's Missa Simile Est Regnum Coelorum for the pontifical Mass, a votive Mass for Pope Benedict, celebrated by Bishop Salvatore Cordileone. Bishop Cordileone was in residence, as it happens, at a parish where I used to lead the guitar group. Don't things come full circle!! Seems I'm still playing guitar in church, chant camp notwithstanding. But now I'm also conducting polyphony and chant--music beyond my sights back in those early days.
Hopefully the ubiquitous video cameras will soon supply linkable videos that I can post and share. But for now, let me just recommend this Colloquium, for pastors as well as for music teachers and parish music directors. I met wonderful priests here, all dedicated to renewal. The pastor of St. John Cantius told his fascinating story. Plenty of prayer time, free resources, low-cost books, support of all kind, and great food are provided.Deo gratias.

I'll do my best to make sure our humble little Masses at St. Louis tomorrow morning aren't too much of a letdown after a week's worth of beautiful Liturgies.....
